Default Possible Cause XKR problem

Hi all
2004 XKR 23k
Shrieking sound on acceleration...drives normally...nothing on computer.

My best thought was supercharger belt, but they only get changed every 40k ?
The sound is like a belt...may well take it to the main dealer but I thought I would ask you guys for your comments.

Cheers
Brian

Any chance you've had even a small coolant spill onto the belt? They do squeal after this and I've not a found a satisfactory way of stopping it other than replace the belt.

Another possibility is the belt tensioner / idler failing.

Thanks for your thoughts Graham.
Just come back from a 200 mile run and this occured within the last 40 miles
I have no idea if coolant can get on the belt...I guess your 2nd option seems more likely...don't know what the lifespan of the tensioner/idler is likely to be...perhaps it's like 'how long is string' lol
I will take it to the service manager for his comments later in the week...when I find out the cause, I will post it here as a reply.
Many thanks for your comment Graham, it is appreciated.

Went to the main dealer today after giving the car a run, in that time I couldn't reproduce that squealing belt like sound today?
I was told that generally, the only time the belt makes any sound was when it is cold....watch and wait was the advice....come back if it returns.
Upside is that it didn't cost anything LOL

I had this problem a couple of years ago too. Turned out that there is a service bulletin about this and a modified supercharger belt, tensioner and idler pulley kit available. Have a look at this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...er-belt-95411/
