Did my Car have speakers here?
Is there supposed to be a speaker there to plug the wires into.
I have had my 2004 XK8 for about six weeks and working on over the winter while the snow flies here. I am just starting to take it apart for good cleaning and rust proofing so I am coming across something's that I wonder about. After removing the door panels I noticed that there is a wire coming up to the speaker grill, but no speaker, same both sides. It sys Alpine on the grill so I have expected a tweeter in there. Has someone removed them or where they never there?
No, that spot is for a sensor that controls the airbag. I am sure that you will get a very detailed explanation in short order.
Oops, spoke too soon and got those mixed up with the other device. Yes, those are indeed speakers.

There were different audio systems over the years but by 04 you should have had the Apline premium system and yes there should be tweeters behind those grills. Has you system been upgraded by a previous owner?
adding in the tweeters will be a big plus just look up the specs as to if original was 2 ohm or 4 ohm speakers

You can buy those speakers off of eBay. I had to replace mine once. I think it cost $40 or $50. They are very easy to replace, just be careful you don't break the little plastic clip.

These are for super tweeters. I just checked mine today - I have to admit I can't hear them working (and I'm only 56 - trying to find a way to blame it on something other than my ears), so I took measurements. They measure 4 ohm, crossed over with a 6.3uf capacitor in series. I'll leave it for someone with a calculator to figure out the crossover frequency. As I recall the formula is: capacitance in microfarads (uf) = 1/(2pi x crossover frequency x impedance in megaohms). Ah, I just double checked myself works out to 6300hz crossover. One could probably argue whether this is a tweeter or supertweeter at that frequency. John
Whoa.... Jaguars AND math! This "is" a great forum. ;-)
My '03 with Alpine system has the tweeters there. The airbag sensors are behind the fine metal mesh things on the A & B pillars and the overhear console.
