Differential and rear subframe
My 2000 XK8, 140000km has a bearing in the differential broken.
After finding a replacement part the subframe was removed to replace the diff.
We noticed that the top of the subframe is to badly rusted that it can not be reused without repair or replacement. We can not get a new one since jaguar has a backorder on this part dated from last year.
So could it be normal that the diff fails after only 140k kms?
Would it be worthwhile looking for a second hand subframe or can it be repaired?

Differential and Subframe
Mine (00) is failing at 53,500 miles (at least started 'whirring noises') I'm looking for a garage to pull the sub-frame out. Apparently, it is a considerable task. I have the only XK8 within 50 miles, so it is not something seen around here.
I have located a used carrier at Coventrywest.com $450 w/180 day warranty, in Atlanta area. Quality Parts on line will sell me a 'new' one for $525, shipped with 30 day warranty. These are suppose to be the same rear ends used in Aston Martin DB7 and failures are 'rare', according to most. I also see the entire rear assembly ('99 wheel to wheel) on eBay for $750 OBO. Not sure it will work in the 2000. I would appreciate any 'lessons learned' or 'how to' info anyone can provide.

Make sure you have the correct parts.
We took very detailled pictures of the removed parts and the shop still managed to send us a wrong one.
If you can, take your original part with you so you can compare.
The whole replacement took a mecanic more than a day. So worthwhile doing it yourself if you have the equipment, to keep the bill acceptible.

Being an honest person, I am actually surprised by the folks who have told me that "this will fit", knowing full well it will not. I ordered a "pumkin" today at a reasonable price. I hope it is good...I know it will fit. The problem is finding someone who will pull the entire assembly out, swap pumkins and put it all back together. If I was 22 I'd do it myself, but I am 72 and can barely mow the lawn. I love the car, so it has to be fixed.
