Display backlight out ?

Display backlight out ?
I have a backlight out on the display in my center console. Its the upper display where the temp and AC settings are shown. The passager side is now dark, the display is still functioning correctly, but just that it is only backlit now on half of the display, the other half is dark.
Question, anyone else have this problem, and if so how do you correct it? Is it simply a light bulb or LED that needs to be replaced, if so how hard is it to get to this. Input appreciated.
Thanks,
Joel

I had the same issue on my 99 when I first bought it. Half the temp display had no backlight. Took the display out (find radio removal instructions on this forum) and replaced twist in light bulb. Jag wants big $$ for these, my original thought was to replace every bulb since I had it apart figuring they are all 10 plus years old. Think I added it up to over $200 in bulbs though... Replaced the burned out ones (had a button that didnt light up either) and put it back together. All in all, pretty easy. I think you can find the bulbs online a lot cheaper though but I wanted to put it back together and start driving it again...
Note- protect the gear shift plate when pulling the radio. Pretty easy to scratch the black matte finish as you slide the radio out and the wiring harness is still connected. (and you know how I know)

I reinstalled 2 of them that checked good on the bench with a volt/ohm meter. They are not working! I did clean the contact area prior to the reinstall. I would recommend replacing them all. I have not checked but I was told that you can get the bulbs from Radio Shack a lot cheaper than Jaguar. I think this is it http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062368
I guess it would be good to read the entire post. Are they the only lights that are not working? If all your lights are out I would check the potentiometer located on the left of the steering wheel column. If this is not the case then I would check the wiring oneline for your car. http://www.gusglikas.com/AutoRepairElectrical.htm

brgjag, did you ever fix you red button on your rear fog? My front fog light (not the green backlit) is out. BTW, my rear is amber, my front is (was) red, I bet my buttons got switched at one time!
I'm close to pulling the radio/aux switches out to repair a wire behind my system. This, and the bulb are not critical, just nagging at me (and I'm always looking for a good project) since I can't change my JAG clock using the nav if this wire isn't connected.
I'm learning to solder too...dangerous, I know.
