Default Do door modules have to be programmed?

If I purchase a used door module for the passenger side door do I need to have it re-programmed? Or do they have a VCATS number to match up like some of the other modules so they don't have to re-programmed?

If you match the VCATs number you should not need to reprogram it.

I talked with Coventry West, they specialize in used Jaguar parts and they said all the North American cars have the same VCATS number. Has anyone else heard this?

A statement like that must be taken in context or it can lead to false conclusions. Given your issue with the passenger door, presumably your question to them and their response related only to the DCM (Door Control Module)?

The VCATS (Vehicle Configuration and Test System) label is specific to each individual vehicle and lists the VIN of the vehicle together with the Part Numbers of the CM's (Control Modules) originally fitted to the vehicle during manufacture.

For the Door Control Module, the VCATS label will show something like LJA2120AJ/002 where the first nine digits is the Part Number and the last numbers are the market identifier.

For the 4.0 litre cars, there's a Part Number change at VIN A21853. There's a further Part Number change for the 4.2 litre cars.

This means the VCATS numbers for Door Control Modules will not be all the same on 1996-2006 XK8/XKR's. Those with the same Part Number should be interchangeable without reprogramming. It would be interesting to know if any DCM can be programmed to any 1996-2006 vehicle.

I should have been more specific. I was only referring to door modules with the part number LJA2120AJ. I have since been told that the last letter can be J or G.

Has anyone ever tried to open up the door module to see if there's a way to fix it?

What is your problem with it? How did you diagnose the module is bad?

Anyone with a good eye (a magnifier helps) can visually inspect a module for obvious defects such as bad solder joints, broken copper traces, leaking capacitors or obviously burnt or physically damaged components. Sometimes you can get lucky and the electronic defect is visible.

Getting false passenger door open message. New micro-switch didn't fix it. Checked new and old switch and both good. Wiring from car checks out.

I suggest you swap your passenger and driver door modules to confirm your diagnosis. They are identical part numbers and VCATS codes.

I know that would work but I don't want to take a chance on breaking something when I pull the drivers door. I went ahead and bought a used module. It will be here tomorrow and then I should know.

Please keep us posted as I have just ordered a used driver's door module too. The reputable seller did confirm that the front driver's and passanger's side modules are interchangeable.

Door module was plug and play. My tip for the R&R. It was a little difficult to get unplugged. When I was re-installing the module, I unseated the two white plastic fittings that hold the wiring in place. They are easy to see, just look for two white pieces poking out of the door panel near the speaker.

I purchased the module from European Automotive Group out of Moultrie, Ga. They are very knowledgeable regarding specific issues with Jaguars. I spoke with Davey and he went above and beyond. The asking price was $150.00 plus $12.00 for next day shipping, right in the middle price range of what I had found. They also offer 90 day warranty compared to the standard 30 day. He agreed to $125.00 plus shipping and in addition to the discount he sent me FREE OF CHARGE the small front door speaker and cover I needed. I placed the order at 3:30 pm and it was on my door step the next day by 2:00 pm. Here's their contact info: 800-761-3876 europeanautomotivegroup.com

Good to hear you've got this resolved and at a reasonable cost.

Hi Guys and Girls
I searched the forum by part number so thought it best to add to this string for relevents
I have found that my drivers door window wouldn't lift when the door was closed.
I have done all the battery check thing and programming but the window would still not lift when the door was closed.
I have been in the doors today installing the new polk speakers so took the liberty to swap the door control modules over.
I reprogrammed them and low and behold the lift issue migrated to the passenger door and the drivers door is ok.
I did split the module but my belief is that the electronics are not getting the door closed signal.
There are no evident cracks or dry joints visible on the pcb or connector terminations.
What I would like to know is that my module numbers are LJA2120AG/XXX. I have found a LJA2120AJ/XXX. will this fit or do I need to find a G coded unit?
Thanks in advance
Wayne

I have the AG module from a 97xk8. I also have the the AJ module but it is from a 99xk8. I don't know if they are interchangeable. Maybe someone else with more knowledge about modules can chime in. If you want the AG module send me a PM.

UPDATE
I thanks for your comments and support. The AJ will fit the 97 Jag. I have managed to purchase one locally and fitted it. The lifting routine now works as it should
