Dont scratch my car !
Some multi-storey parking spaces are so narrow that if someone parks a bit too close to you, or there is a wall on one side, that when you return to the car you find that it is impossible to open the door wide enough to actually get in. I've been there!
The space with a pillar in the photo is exactly the sort that I look for. I can then park the car with the driver's door opening into the protected space behind the pillar.

True. A lot easier to get in and out with the windows down. I'm tempted to fit Jag Wrangler's remote convertible top module to my coupe as it works to open and close the windows from the fob (no roof to control, obviously!)
well, you can always open the windows with the key in the lock by just holding it in one direction, iirc. Or does it only close them? climbing in the window of a coupe sounds like quite an ordeal, though. I've dropped the top on my convertible to get in before using the jagwrangler mod, though.

I am one of the fussiest/obsessive personality when it comes to parking my vehicles with the primary goal being to avoid getting dings and chips from rude or sloppy people. I mainly try parking on the street if possible but if I need to use a lot or parking structure I am on the hunt first for end spaces and if none available then for spaces with smaller vehicles adjacent to me. However I would NEVER park like what is shown in the the photo in the first post as that would be like an invitation for someone to purposely key the car. I tend to keep cars a long time and by the time I pass them along they often look as good as the day I bought them.
My wife's 2006 XK8 has not been parked in a public lot or deck in more than six years. I take it out at least once a week for a spirited 25-mile jaunt to keep it happy and healthy, and I do not park it until I arrive back home....
I'm the same. I'll walk an extra 10 or 20 yards just to have a relatively safe parking space. Not a big deal. It seems the parking spaces were made for sedans and now we have huge SUVs, trucks and cyber trucks all over the place. You gotta watch out parking under trees or streetlamps too !
One of the things I miss about living in the US are the large car parking spaces. The only places that match up to them are the Costco car parks - UK spaces are so small.
Having said that, try an underground car park in Barcelona or Paris - you'll have nightmares for weeks!

These days the Jaguar is just another average sized car and is in fact a compact car in comparison to shopping carts like the Range Rover Sport.
UK spaces (and roads) haven't got bigger, meanwhile new cars have. Back in 1996 when the XK8 was launched it was a big car - a full 1 metre longer than the best selling car at the time, the Ford Fiesta.

An earlier generation, maybe, but it illustrates your point.
And, for the sharp-eyed amongst you, this is Goodison Park and not Anfield ;-)
