Door handle and latch issues

I just inherited a 1998 XK8 with 100k miles from my brother (who is a very conservative driver). I already replaced the ABS module in 2 hours after getting a $100 rebuild from Module Master (http://www.modulemaster.com) ...that after a $4000 quote from Jaguar.
My next project is to fix the driver's door, I have 3 issues there. The window just stopped working (luckily its up). The passenger window works fine, but when you hit the driver's side button, nothing. The door handle is loose (it pulls away from the door slightly when you grab it (Jaguar attempted to fix it for my brother 20k ago, many of their repairs are coming undone). And, the door latch (the mechanism that grabs the door post strike) appears stuck or broken.
Any advice on what to expect or typical problems in these repairs? Are parts available other than from Jaguar or salvage yards?
TIA

Hi there-
I think the reason your door latch isn't working properly is because your window can't automotically drop a fraction of an inch when you open the door.
I had this very same issue last week after getting mine back from the repair shop. I'm not sure if the battery got disconnected (although all other electronis worked fine). In any case, everytime I pulled on the door handle, the window would go down another inch or so. So I fully rolled up the window while the car door was open and closed it. The door "bounced" and did not latch properly. It's because of the seal and there is a warning in the manual, to drop the window somewhat when there is no power so that you don't damage the window or the seal.
In my case I just had to reprogram the windows and the problem was solved.
I know this isn't much help as it doesn't repair anything but I'm thinking that there is probably nothing wrong with the latch. Maybe one of the other forum members can give you insight on dropping the glass just a smidge manually, till you get it repaired.

Thanks for your reply, but the window problem just started, the issue with the door handle has been around for awhile. I think that it has to do with how it is fastened to the door. When I grab it the handle actually pulls out a bit from the top, like there is a fastener missing or broken. The door latch on the other hand may just need a good cleaning and lube, but it appears to be inoperable, and this is not connected to the windows movement (I suspect).
You're going to have to get inside that door panel. Be very careful in there, I have been told about horror stories of the global close/open being triggered and people getting fingers lost in there. Door latch is most likely working its way loose...bolts. latch mechanism is a part that does go bad in these xks...both of mine have been replaced after only 5 years of use. Window problem is probably regulator, but can be confirmed once you get it accessible and can check power to it. Time for door surgery.

Thanks h20boy,
I imagine if I disconnect the battery I won't have to worry about the "global close/open" whatever that is...
I'll check with Ken about the parts...they are not listed on the website. For this fix I'd prefer new to used.
Now it's time to disrobe the door....

Good call, Ken has access to salvage parts too in addition to new. Lots don't even appear on his website.
Andy (jagtechohio) has a good supply of good used parts also if Ken can't help you. You can find him on here roaming around here fixing things.
