Help…. Cannot find any info on repairing this thin vinyl on the driver’s seat side. I’d like to stop the progression of damage. Any of you done this yourself, easy?

Cindy:
I suggest removing the seat(s) for this recolorant (repaint), and recolor any pieces that need it. Your damage appears to me to be on the surface only and can be removed. Even if that one dark crevasse is indeed a crack, there are fillers that can be regrained with a heat kit. From the peeling, I am guessing that it has been recolored before. I think that with your interest as a seamtress that you would get a lot of self-satisfaction from doing it yourself. I did mine in 2013 for <$100 and I will be redoing mine again this summer. There are many approaches on YouTube and from fellow members that I'm sure will be encouraging.
I have redyed the leather/Vinyl on a couple of vehicles. I find the "SEM" dyes and preps work best.
Looks like your seat was overloaded with the 'Dye' It is really a paint that lays on top of the material unless all previous finishes/sealants have been stripped. SEM bonds very well if properly prepped first.

this was , literally, a “duh” moment for me. The two answers I got were so helpful. After seeing the progression of that “peeling”, it makes sense. I had done a little repair on a different area, but was pretty careful to follow directions. Now that I know what’s happening, I can try to fix the unsightly mess.
Not as intimidating as the plastic undertray…
Thanks! Cheers!
