Default Driver side window not working

My drivers side window will not go up or down.

I replaced the switch in the door thinking that may be faulty…..passenger side window has always gone up and down ok, but drivers side window still not moving. Did not solve the problem.

However, when I slightly open the door I can hear a relay clicking….and when I press the door window switch I hear the same relay clicking. Therefore I assume the door micro switch is working OK? But perhaps the window drive motor is faulty?????

I have checked out all the videos and threads on adjusting and replacing micro switch, both mine are working OK. The battery is fully charged.

Is there another video showing how to get to the window drive motor??

Is there any way of checking the drive motor other than buying a new one??

Has anyone had to change a window drive motor?
Where is the best place to buy a drive motor?

Many thanks for your help,
David

Attached is the motor removal procedure for your car. The orange and orange/yellow wires going to the motor power the motor. One polarity of +12v on those pins drive one direction, the opposite polarity on the same pins drives the other direction.

If you want to test the motor, it would be safest to do it with the motor connector unplugged and provide 12v and ground to the pins where the orange and orange-yellow wires are normally connected. Keep your fingers clear of moving parts!

Hey, djpxk8, mine did the same thing, a 2003 xk8, took the window out and noticed the grease had turned to wax. The window just froze in it it. Took it all apart, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, re-greased and it works better than it ever did.

I took the motor out over the weekend and found that the pins on the connector to the motor were dirty, after cleaning, the motor started working!!! Thank goodness, that saved me $540 for a new motor.

Now I have a window "sequence" problem, which I believe is caused by disconnecting the ground on the battery??

I have seen a thread somewhere that suggests "rebooting" the computer to solve this problem. I believe it said that you "touch" the ground wire to the positive wire for 1 second to reboot the system. Does this mean, take the positive wire OFF the battery FIRST, then touch the 2 cables together??
Or do you leave the positive cable connected to the battery and touch the ground to it??

Please advise on this "rebooting" as I do not want to "FRY" anything......

Many thanks for all your help,
David

Just roll the windows down and hold the buttons until you hear a faint click. Then roll the windows up and hold the button until you hear a faint click.

That should work, but if it does not, disconnect and reconnect the battery negative terminal and try this again.

When I roll the drivers side window down I can hear the click, but not when I wind the window up??
I am supposed to hear the same "click" when winding the window up?

Thanks

Yes you should. Are you doing this with the door closed? I have a procedure on my page http://www.jagrepair.com/XK8windowReset.htm I hope this helps.

Default Driver Side Window Not Working

WhiteXR - thanks for the info to remove the window. I have a 97 XK8 and have the same problem as djpxk8. I followed the instructions you provided but cannot lift the window after removing the clips from the nylon bushings. I'm not sure if the 2001 is the same as the 97 but the window cannot be lifted and appears to be held by something at the top part of the scissor mechanism. Is there some mechanical means holding the glass in the track or could it be stuck with dirt etc ?

It seems to me that 97 – 01 are the same instructions. I am unable to find anything that would indicate that they are different.
