Default Duplicate FLIP style key :)

just had my original key duplicated into a modern flip key with remote. I've seen the tutorial using the xtype fob, but wasn't a fan of the rubber casing, and did not want to cut my transponder out etc...

my guys in LA did mine today, with a new, high quality fob, and cloned my key, so I did not sacrifice losing the original. AMAZING!

$250
old vs new
hard, non-rubbery buttons
solid & compact

I gave up that button, but am sure they have a fob that has it.

It is nice, but $250 for a fob that sells for about $40 on ebay is kinda steep on the markup. I can't imagine that it took more than 30 min to set it up for your car.

I both agree and disagree. It is similar to the joke about the retired engineer:

An engineer retires after a long and successful career. He is enjoying his leisure time, reconnecting with his wife, children and enjoying his hobby of working on and driving his Jaguar XKR. (Oh wait! That is my dream retirement in a few years)

His former employer contacts him in a panic. The plant he designed and oversaw the construction of has a problem. Production has halted and it is costing them millions of dollars a day! All their best people have tried and failed to get the plant working again. In the end they all suggested that the old engineer be called in.

The company begged him to return but he said: "No, I'm happy doing what I'm doing now and for the first time in years I'm relaxed and not stressed".

The company said: "We'll pay you anything! Just name your price." So, reluctantly, the engineer went back to the plant.

He spent the morning walking around observing, taking readings and making notes. Just before lunch he pulls out a piece of chalk and makes an big 'X' on the side of one of the machines. "Here's the problem", he says.

He then presents an invoice for $50,000. The company is outraged! "We can't accept a $50,000 invoice for a mornings work!" they say.

So the engineer produces a detailed invoice that reads:
- $1,000 for 4 hours of consulting
- $49,000 for knowing where the problem is

=======================

Yeah, in some ways that is an expensive key that Ms Fin bought. But in other ways maybe not. If Ms Fin couldn't do the work herself then she was buying the expertise that "her guys" had to do the job without hacking apart another key.

Just like the engineer in the story her guys brought special knowledge and ability to solving the problem in a way that has value to some people.

$250 for me was a great price to have an extra key made into a flip with new remote. I don't have the tools to DIY this myself, and did not want to risk destroying my only key. I tend to not trust eBay with certain items in case they do not work, and this place has a five star rating on Yelp and guarantees all their work.

New fob, new cut key, key sawed down and welded into fob, all done within an hour while I waited was well worth it for me.

Please PM me at your convenience. I would like the name and phone number to contact them. The price is about half what Jaguar wants to give me a spare key and new fob.

if all you want is a duplicate key, it is $125

they require the car to be present, so you would need to make an LA trip.
sending you a pm now

I get that not everyone is technical and may need to pay for services. I just think that $250 is too much regardless.

Just buy one of these, take it to a local locksmith and have cut/programmed to match your existing key, then setup the FOB using instructions on this site. Viola! Save yourself at least half the money.

I only found one locksmith who cuts Jaguar keys near me.

this place also guarantees their work, so it was well worth the $$$ for me.

Bluefin & rothwell, I just ordered the ebay Bentley Flip Chip Remote for $45.00 or so! I will let you all know what happens and how much I finally wind-up spending to get it to work! Wish me luck!
