Default E brake light on how to fix

So my e brake has always take a bit of force to get the light to go out. After using it today, I can't get the light to go out (although I can get the brake to release. How do I take the cover off to get at the sensor and ideas for fixing? I'm guessing it has just worn down the sensor over 20 years.

The sensor is just a microswitch. The cable that comes from the handle goes to a pivot point then from there 2 cables go to the rear emer brakes. When the handle releases the cable the cable has to relax all the way for the switch to turn off. On mine what happened was the pivot after the main cable was sticking not letting the cable relax completely. Had to take it apart and clean the old thick lube off and re-lube it and that fixed it.

That part that hits the switch won't come down far enough to hit it if the cable doesn't completely retract which was the problem with mine. The PO "solved" the problem by unplugging the switch. The pivot where the cables meet was sticking and cleaning and lubing that fixed it.
