Hi folks,

I've been reading about accessing this plug from this forum and all I've found includes drilling from the trunk or loosening the rear subframe down....so I decided to see if I can figure this out the easier way...I was surprised that it only took me 5 minutes to figure it out....

From what I see, the rear sway bar is the one that's blocking the access to the plug, so your extension won't be able to align with the plug...so I thought, if only I can find a small diameter extension ..........so after searching in my tool drawer I found a 1/2 to 3/8 adapter and a short 3/8 extension...and that does it!!

So, once the filler plug is off, do you extract and refill from there, or did you manage to open the drain plug too? Thanks for any pointer.

 

Convertible owners should be aware that this method won't work as there is less clearance due to the bracing bracket welded onto the rear of the spare wheel tub.

However there is an alternative method.

There is no drain plug so you need to suck out the old oil.

 

Installed a 1/8" NPT drain plug in carrier housing after using a 1 1/4" hole saw to make access in the Lower-X-member. 3/4" long 1/2" square bar stock and a thin 1/2" tappet wrench allowed easy of drain and fill. Each to his own.
