Default XK8 windows will not go up automatically

How do I convince my XK8 to automatically roll up the windows after closing the doors? It did it once, so I know it can do it.

Every time I pull the door handle, the window goes down a bit (by design). If I pull it once, the door still seals. If I accidentally pull it twice, the window stays open an bit, I have to put the key in the ignition, roll up the window and start over.

I am sure there must be a way to reset this smart window logic (like a sunroof that doesn't close).

Your battery is likely beginning to fail. Happened to me. If you roll up your window and hold the button after it is closed for a few seconds, you will hear a "click" and that tells you the window is "set". However, when your battery begins to get weak, one of the first things you will notice are the very symptoms you mentioned. I replaced my battery with an AGM unit and have never had the problem again.

If you have disconnected the battery you will need to reset the window- this means a click onopen and closed, as follows:

Get in the car, close both doors, and turn the ignition on
Then open the windows fully, until each side has made a 'click'.
Now close them fully - again, until each side has clicked.

I believe your problem will now have resolved!

Thank you for your help!

When I wanted to test-drive it before buying it, the battery failed at the dealership and I got a brand-new battery with it. I do disconnect the battery every time I store it for a while. Now it clicked in my head!

FWIW, The Reset Procedure is covered in the Owner's Manual.
