ECM replacement
- Dear learned members.
Sorry if this is long winded. After my last post the very succinct answers led me to remove my suspected faulty ecm. I sent it to an ecm repair shop. After a week plus of testing I recieved a price to repair of 450.00+vat. I questioned the cost as I had not received a description / report of the damage / issues to be repaired. I then received an email rescinding the initial repair quote. The new quote was now to be 650.00+vat. I questioned the rise in cost and asked again for the engineers fault report. After a week I received a report and request to pay quickly as they are busy. The report stated that some slight water damage was found and 20%faulty software.
The original fault was an occasional no crank issue.
I am not convinced by the repair shop.
Can I using The mongoose leed and wds/ids software to clone my old ecm to one I purchased? My ecm part no is MB079700-9370 the intended replacement is MB079700- 9043.
thanks in advance.

Hi,
You need to retrieve your ECM from these people as soon as possible and send them on their way.
"20% faulty software" What does that even mean ??
A quick Google on MB079700- 9043 implies it's for a V6 'S' type, so definitely not what you want. ALL the numbers need to match.
In theory, yes -although the replacement module process is more complex on the 4.2L.
I've attached some Jaguar documentation for you.

A big thanks to you all for your kind replies.
You confirmed my suspicions regarding the "repair". I will recover the original ECM.
I shall look out for a unit with all the correct matching numbers.
Being cheeky now, is there a sort of flow chart for cloning? I.e do this then that sequence in a sticky.
ive read many many posts and although I get the overall idea. I have maybe read to much and become sort of snow blind to the facts.

Full disclosure: I have a '98 so I haven't had to deal with this for a later car, but there are those on here who have.
Hopefully someone will chime in to help.
Note that the MB... number is not the Jaguar part: according to the electronics catalogue for your 2004, it would be C2N3338, or C2N3800 if it's a very late 2004.
You originally had a no-start condition - has this now improved somewhat to just intermittent?
