Default resolved ecm story

About four months ago my 1996 VDP started stalling after having been driven for thirty minutes or so. It got worse. I was convinced it was a fuel pump problem and had it replaced. No change. My mechanic suspected the ECM. I found an ECM on Ebay with matching numbers. Evidently there was a recall of the ECMs of the X-300s and they were reworked. This is noted on the ECM. The ECM on these cars is plug and play IF THE NUMBERS MATCH. We put the new Ebay ECM in and the symptoms became worse so we put the original back in. The mechanic then was suspicious of the crank position sensor and had gotten a code for it. I had put an aftermarket CPS in. So I bought a genuine Jag brand CPS (Terry's Jags). That with the original ECM still was having seizures. So then we put the Ebay ECM back in and that was the cure. Conclusion-the problem was both the CPS and the ECM. It took about four months to iron all of this out but I now have my car back and healthy.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks for sharing!

I did find a place that can repair the AJ16 ECUs, which is harder to find than you might think....

If you’re interested in sending your ECU out for repair, contact me offline and I can tell you where to send it (along with about $400)

Forgot to mention......my mechanic sent the ECM to a shop he uses and that shop declared it fault free. So I called to a shop I had used before and if they could find an intermittent fault. They said they could and that they could leave the ECM on their machine for days if needed. And that's what it took. They declared the ECM faulty but that it was the processor and could not be repaired. The name of that shop is ECM Depot in Grand Prairie, Tx. I recommend them.

Thank you! The same thing happened to me with the 30 minute stalling. My mechanic is trying to find a replacement ECM, and I have one coming in, so maybe I can also get my VDP running again.
