I'd want a second opinion, this time from a jag specialist (dealer or indy) as it's so rare they fail that usually it's a bad diagnosis by a non-jag person.

What exactly is alleged to be wrong with it and how did it occur? (Bet he can't tell you.)

You can get yours repaired. google will find you places that fix them and it's a bit odd your repairer hasn't already gone that way.

You can buy them from wreckers, ebay etc. But you need to understand how to properly code it to your specific car or anti-theft triggers and rest of car shuts down too.

BTW, please post an intro in the newbies forum

Be careful. ECM problems are very rare. The few that have been reported for the S Type have been traced back to water getting inside the ECM.

The ECM is located on the fire wall behind the glove box. I would remove the ECM and really inspect all around for any evidence of water. It's right under the cabin filter box and this is apparently the path here the water gets in.

We had a very good thread on the forum where that was the problem and how the guy sealed everything up so his replacement ECM would not get wet. Might try a search or two for more information.

I also recommend getting your stock one repaired. Much cheaper and you know you have the proper unit. These cars are very complex electronically so matching the proper ECM sometimes is not that simple.

Here is a recommendation from a top level Jaguar tech named Brutal on where to get it repaired. Please heed his advice!!
