Default electrical issues - RESOLVED

have been having various electrical issues the last few months from random codes to dash board acting strange ( brake light comes on speedometer stops working etc etc ) dead or weak battery . just noticed a thread that talked about the ignition cover sticking and upon thinking I cant remember the steering wheel moving to the ignition key removed position . could that flap be the cause of my problems ? I sprayed some contact cleaner onto the area and inserted and removed the key various times and the steering wheel is now responding. just looking for some feedback .

quite possible as it will not allow the security module to go into sleep mode putting drain on the battery. You should have heard a ding when the key was removed and the flab was stuck open as if the keys were still in the ignition

I had exactly the same problem and it was the little flap. Over a couple of days it drained the battery. WD40 sorted it (not into the lock - onto the key which was inserted a few times).

cleaning the ignition switch seems to have fixed the battery drain issue .car was parked for 3 days and started with no issues .

Thanks for coming back with the result.

I've added RESOLVED to your thread title to help others looking for answers to the same issue in future.

It can be easy to forget how much electrical havoc that little key flap can create when it sticks. Thanks for reminding me to go out to both of our Jaguars and lube them with a touch of contact cleaner....
