Default Electrical suspension - My tires bounce like basket *****

How does the electrical suspension work on my 2001 XKR and what is it base on? Is it an on or off signal to the shock from the computer? Is it based on speed or shock movement, like when you hit a big bump.
Not only am I having the clunking coming from the rear still even after replacing the lower rear shock bushings, the car has always felt loose, like the tires are bouncing like basket *****, when going over sharp bumps at speed.
I always thought it was the shocks letting the damping loose to make a smoother ride but lately I’m starting to think maybe it’s shock bushings or bad shocks. It sure doesn’t feel satabe while this is going on.
What do you think?

OK.... how about this question.

What CATS system do our cars use?

Active:
Hydraulically actuated
Electromagnetic recuperative

Adaptive/Semi-active:
Solenoid/valve actuated
Magneto rheological damper

Perfect!

It's going to an experienced mechanic tomorrow for trouble shooting.
I'll keep everyone informed on the prognosis.

The shop says the front shocks a worn for sure, thus the bad hadling and the rattle maybe coming from the rear shocks but they're not sure. He also noticed that the rear u-joints are worn enough to let the rear tire move about an 1/8" when checking for play from top to bottom. He thinks this maybe making the rattling sound. We're going to replace the shocks first to see if this fixes the rattle before attacking the u-joints.

Anyone else have this u-joint problem?

Has anyone replace the CATS with standard shocks?

I had new non-CATS shocks and front shock mounts installed. This fixed all my problems. No more rattle or bad handling.

shocks $440
upper front mounting kit $230
Labor $780

Did this require any wiring issues for any sensors? I have a similar bounce issue over poor roads. Had the rear shocks replaced already but it seems to be more from the front. I'm actually wondering if I need more extensive suspension work and The front bushings are crumbling as it is.

I just unplugged the CATS module in the trunk. This was discussed in another thread. I replaced all of my CATS w/non-CATS. 1/4 the price.
The mechanic had me buy new upper shock mounting bushings from Welsh ($115 each) and rebuilt the bushing assembly.

Do it ASAP and enjoy driving your car again.
Now I need better brakes!!!
It never ends.

Thanks for this post. I may have to do the same, considering the age of my XK8, 98
