Default Engine cover screw.

I have a 2006 Jaguar XK8 with a missing engine cover screw. The plastic cover is held in place with 4 screws and the oil filler cap must be removed to remove the engine cover. Does anyone know where I can buy one of these screws?

You will probably find you can buy one from Jaguar, every part normally has its own part number even bolts and screws

I did call my local Jaguar dealer parts dept., and they told me that I would have to buy the whole engine cover to get the 4 bolts.

If all else fails, take one of the 3 remaining fasteners to a GOOD hardware store and find a nut that the fastener will screw into with a good fit, no wiggle or looseness to it. I am guessing this fastener has "fine" threads as opposed to "coarse" (spacing between the ridge of each thread). For a good fit, you will need to match up a fine threaded fastener with a fine threaded nut. Once you have determined the correct size of the nut, it will be easy to fine the correct sized fastener. Fastener material, length and type of head are the only other things you really need to consider at this point.

Thats quite surprising, like I said 'normally' everything is seperate, to be honest I cant even remember what one of these screws looks like, all I can suggest is try some Jag breakers

Good luck

On my '97, the outboard (bottom) of the decorative engine covers are held in place using two rubber caps that slip through the cam covers and then slide onto two 5mm studs which are part of the cam cover bolt pattern. Do you still have the studs on the cam covers?

The four fasteners on the 4.2 engine cover are not really screws, but 1/4 turn twist locks, and no, they're not sold separately. If it were me, I'd head over to Ebay and buy a used cover. You'll not only have three spares, but an extra cover too. Here is one. Guy wants $50 or offer. I'd offer something lower and fix the problem that way
