Question Engine Identification

I know I'm not blind but I can't find my engine number. Book says on a plate below water pump but directly under water pump is front cover. I found 8 digit # on it but engine # is supposed to be 10 digits

Look on top of the block just to the left of the thermostat. You will probably have to climb into the engine compartment and use a flashlight..

There is a current thread called "Engine Serial Number" which details how to find it. On older engines, the number is hidden on a flat section of the block, pointing straight up,

nestled to the left of the thermostat. (Well, I think it's the thermostat. I've torn darn near everything apart on this engine except the thermostat tower !) Here's a photo. I know those are numbers, but I'll have to clean it before I can read it.

Truck,
That looks like 970326 0?43 (can't make out the second time digit).

Dale, I read that the number on the AJ27 is on the drivers side of the block and hard to see.

If you find one of these green stickers:

on the motor rear passenger side down near where it mates with the trans, then you have a reman. engine.

Thanks guys. I finally found it after rubbing quite a bit. I'll get out there tomorrow and clean up enough to read

If the engine is original any Jaguar dealer can pull the build sheet via the VINumber that will supply the engine serial number. If it was an engine replaced under warranty any dealer can supply details of the change out.

Outside original or warranty you will simply have to pull the engine to read the serial number.

Hi Dale

Like you, I found it difficult to locate the engine number and when I finally did, Jaguar's artistic pointillism way of stamping the number made it impossible to read all the digits with any certainty. But as Test Point advises, I called the dealer and they cross referenced the VIN to the original engine number. The number was close enough to resolve the ambiguous characters so I could reasonably conclude that it was, in fact, the original engine which is helpful to know when searching for parts.
