Default Engine knock like diesel when put into drive

Hello all,

Looking for some insight on my 2004 Jaguar XKR-R. When I start the car, all sounds great and the idle settle down but when I put the car into drive I start to get some kind of engine knock on the right side of the car. Any thoughts?

An audio recording might give some clues. Can you make one and post up as an attachment?

nope. All nice and smooth until I put it into drive. Then the engine seems to bog a little. It drives like a dream and does have 95,000 miles on it. If I have my windows up, I can't tell but it doesn't have that jag purr when stopped at a light.

Um, you have an XKR...R? So, the manual prototype that Clarkson drove on Top-Gear that was never sold? The green one they never got around to sorting out and had the warning message "incorrect part fitted" in the dashboard?

Do you have any codes or is the MIL on?

You need a mechanics stethoscope to see if its the engine and what part/area.
Checked the transmission fluid ? The pump can cause funny noises is fluid is low.

Apologies. It's an XKR with the R "racing" package

As a manual lover and a Jag fan, one of the biggest travesties in their history, I think!

Mike

Edit: Wait to clarify. Manual lover = someone who likes driving manuals. That didn't sound right!

I spoke to a mechanic and he said the noise is often on XKR's and it could be the Nose on the supercharger. What do you guys think?

Maybe too late to help , but has the supercharger nose oil ever been changed ? ? ?

the first time I changed mine it came out looking like molasses and smelled nearly as bad as rear end lube. UGH !

subsequent changes were a light honey color, not a bad change from the as-new appearance (colorless).

never too late.
I don't have any record of it being changed. I'll have that looked into also.

Thank you all
