Smile Engine Number

Can some one give me a good description as to where the engine number is stamped on the 2000 XK8 Jag. Maybe a picture even. I really need to know what the number is.

Thanks guys

It's on the top of the block, just to the left of the thermostat tower. You will have to get on top of the engine with a flashlight to find it.

Depending on when the engine was made it can also be stamped into the left side behind the engine mount area.

Hi Bob, I have tried many times and have yet to find that number. But, due to the build date of the car being May 2000 on the door frame I think I can assume that I have Nikasil cylinders. I have owned the car for seven years and have never had any problems with starting as I always run the engine until it starts to warm up and it idles down before I even put it in gear. However recently I have noticed some oil consumption that I don't like. Don't know what else would cause it. What would be the accepted oil usage with Nikasil?

I also noticed that the top radiator hose was partially collapsed until I opened the expansion tank. Is this unusual?

Thanks Bob

Sounds like you might need to replace the coolant system cap. It is supposed to draw fluid to the system from the atmospheric catchment tank upon cool-down.

Check TSB 600-03am3 Part-Load Engine Breather.pdf for proper crankcase breathing.

Thanks Bob, I will check the breather system as soon possible. I am mystified as to why there is a no no about doing the TB is there is a certain message on it. Strange.

Also, do you have a link to TSB 310-06 for cleaning the TB. I wouldn't think it would be very difficult.

I really appreciate your help.

The throttles are supposed to have a chemical coating.

The early ones have the procedure to clean.

Bob seems to have answered your questions, as usual. I would only add that my nikasil XK8 used about 3oz. in 3000 mi. at 100,000 mi.

I usually don't answer the question but post JAGUAR's answer to the question.
I have a penchant for collecting and distributing info.

Post Script
I have been using Castrol 10W40 High Mileage oil since my XJs have over 100K miles. They do use some oil between changes and I am here in Texas. Temps can get high in the Summer and not too severe in Winter.

Bob, I don't know what we would do without you. Thanks much for the TSB. I intend to attack this problem this afternoon.

Thanks

Bob
