As for the ECM, my ECM & TCM did not have any evidence of failure internally that I could see but ASI found the problem and fixed them both. No harm in sending it to them to check it out. You have done all the things we all could think of with no success so for now it is the next best move.

Yes, I think I am at the point of sending the ECU to ACI. Yes the real gauge is installed. It has worked flawlessly. Thank you White!

Gus, Do you recommend sending in the ECM and the TCM?

Nevermind. TCM is the transmission control module? I've already been down the transmission road with this car.

My ECU looked new inside also but ASI fixed it promptly.

I want to take it out of the picture. I had a problem once with my Ultra Gauge in my 99xk8 and I want to be sure your Real Gauge is not doing the same thing to you.

OK. I have to think about how to disconnect it and still have the fan and gauge to work as originally designed.

Tomorrow, I will take the dash out.

Does it read your OBDII codes?

I think that if there is an ECU problem it has to be firmware/software damage. Now I didn't disassemble the ECU and look at the complete board as I figure if it comes down to it I will have to send it in for a rebuild.

I'm still unsure if that is the problem yet.

Sorry, what is with this area??????

To disconnect RealGauge, disconnect the battery and unplug the larger white connector on the top of the RealGauge module (note your coolant gauge will be temporarily disabled). Disconnect the battery again when you plug it back in.

That being said, the similarity between RealGauge and UltraGauge is in name only.

Ultragauge is a generic device that communicates on the CANbus, which is the nerve center for all the electronic modules in the vehicle to communicate. If it malfunctions, it can take down the vehicle.

RealGauge is custom designed for the XK8/R and monitors the ignition, and a water temperature signal between the the speedometer and climate control system. I have never seen, and find it hard to imagine how it can cause a problem like this. RealGauge DOES NOT interact with the CANbus.

Thank you WhiteXKR!

It is a perplexing problem. So many things to look at and think about. I've been running the car for two years as a daily driver without a single hiccup (engine wise) Before I took ownership the car had a single owner who spared no expense. It looks like a new car in many ways. Engine bay, Paint, Top, interior. To just take a dump is disappointing and since I am not a mechanic and the nearest Jaguar Dealer is 4 hours away, (I have not heard good things about them) I seek and receive excellent advice on this forum.

Thank you all for your good ideas and suggestions.

I might have jumped the gun on the gauge but was not sure if it was any part of the CAN system and wanted to get it out of the picture.

I just did a cold start this morning. Car fired right up and went right to 800 rpm and purred like a kitten for 2 minutes. Then it gave a little sputter, the check engine light came on and it died displaying "Engine Fault" "Stability Control" etc.....

One can hope for a miracle

The number of 97 ECU failures is significant. I really think you need to contact ASI and have them test it. When I sent mine the test only cost $55, and I don't expect it to be much higher. You at least need to confirm that it's not the problem.

I agree RJ237. It's going to be sent in - I'm filling out the form to send it in.
