Default Engine won't blow up

Drove to Florida with low oil pressure which makes almost 2500 miles since the light lit.

Did it. She didn't even blink. Women are so unpredictable. It's either bad bearings or Tensioner Body crack.

1200 miles from AC to Miami.

Met some guy with a 2003 XKR "show-winner" (pale blue) who knows Reverend Sam (from NJ) along the way.

He said, "you're not a troll" and your 97 Sherwood Green Coupe is rare.

Read that bite.

You've never said what sort of oil pressure the engine makes at normal driving RPM. If those are within range, the engine might go for a very long time as-is.

Thanks Mikey. I watched the Jag Tech with the mechanical gage connected to the engine showing normal oil pressure above idle.

She is still running with over 98000 miles on the clock (5000 since warning) and no action on my part to correct anything.

Seems like low oil pressure warning is not always fatal--

Probably not going to blow up due to oil pressure then.

I would still pull the oil pan and check/clean the oil pick-up screen. It could be done in less than an hour on a lift. If the screen is OK then just drive because it is what you are doing anyway.

If the screen is 'plugged', then clean it and you might extend the life of the engine.

well, I have done nothing and it still runs. The assumption of being very careful is not always correct. Not only does it run, it will redline if I ask it to.

Five out of six people who play Russian roulette don't shoot themselves in the head either.

Good luck.

I had a Buick Skylark fully restored similar issue thought it funny until the engine came apart catastrophically near Buttenwillow in 110 degree heat. I was young, I don't take those risks anymore. It was not a happy day. My stepmother had a similar experience with her XKE but she'd thought the oil pressure gauge worked like a fuel level gauge so she at least had an excuse. You blow up an engine at speed and trust me it is a really memorable experience particularly if it locks up the rear wheels. The guy driving the car behind you will likely have a life changing experience at the same time, in my case his car just chewed up big portions of my engine which didn't do his front end any good at all. (though he kept driving and didn't stop for some reason, go figure?). Ended up selling the car for $10. My father, who had given me the car, was not amused.

An update on the situation: The car has been sitting for about two years now and the engine NEVER blew up yet. It's for sale now on cars.com.

Basically, someone's going to take this fine automobile "off my hands" and it could even be you.
I just want out.
