Default Evaporative Loss Flange

If yours is rusting like mine, be prepared to get SCREWED, the one they make now does NOT fit your tank, you have to buy a new tank also. Mine is 2001 MY.

Tank $425+
Flange $200

$625+ to fix Jaguars design screwup and I get to take the tank out AGAIN, you have no idea the joy I am feeling right now.

PS: that is $625 w/forum discount at Nalley, without discount it is over $700.

Decided to bite the bullet and get the parts, called Nalley and found out the tank is $2,000, not $400 and evap loss flange in included along with new pump.
Actually it is $1,700 with forum discount, I believe the redesigned flange was only used on 01 & 02, least that is what the parts guy told me.

ouch, that's a big difference. What led to the corrosion? Do you think you're one of those outliers on a statistical curve? I don't remember reading about this type of part replacement, that kind of $$ would surely be discussed among the boards otherwise.

Apparently the flange was changed not to long ago and mine is rusted is rusted everywhere that is metal. I was thinking of putting some kind of sealant on the metal, but seeing how bad it was rusted (rust is coming off in flakes), I doubt it would hold long and might end up causing more problems. So I am going to by the new tank once the parts guy from Nalley confirms the new tank comes with everything.

Have you considered salvage parts?

Yes I have Beav, but considering the metal type and where it is, I am guessing everyone's is doing the same thing and would not be any better than mine.

As Matt stated above it doesn't seem to be a particularly sore spot for our cars. The worst that could happen is you contact a salvage yard, they pull the part and if it isn't any good, you don't purchase it. I don't know about you but I could probably invest a couple days wait for that much money.

Also, considering how many peeps have replaced their fuel pumps without mention of any rust issue...

Call and ask the condition of the replacement items? I doubt JagHeaven would screw you like that and I'm sure they get enough in that they have a few in serviceable condition....

OK now I am worried. What and where is this rusted flange? Should I be inspecting it to see what kind of shape mine is in? I have a 98 XK-8 drop top.

Also consider some of the pictures in the writeups that show pristine tanks. Aren't these tanks in the trunk?

My tank is in great shape, bottom of the tank is covered in rust flakes and I have seen other people post about having to replace the flange because the valve got stuck open from rust. I am not trying to get everybody stirred up, was just venting a little and pi$$ed off at jag for redesigning the flange and not making compatible with the stock tank and wanting to warn people what to expect if this happens to them.

And one reason you might not here about this much, is that it is only model years 2001-02 that are affected and only XK8's, R's have a different flange.

Gaudin had the old style, so I bought one. Now does anybody know of a epoxy or something similar to coat the metal, so I do not have to worry about rust again?

Side note, Nalley's tank was $1700+ with discount and Gaudin had theirs for $1210.
