Default faint smell of gasoline when accelerating

From my Xkr -2000 I get a faint smell of gasoline when accelerating. Only when pressing the gas pedal more than approx 40%. Goes away in a few seconds. Whats the most likely cause? Had the injectors off last winter, and started using the jag first recently and perhaps it actually started right after I had the injectors off. A seal damage to one or two of the injectors would give this smell?

On some cars this can be a leak in the o-ring seals of the fuel rail dampers. They will look similar to crimp-on caps and are positioned at a T-fitting on the rail.

Thanks for your reply on this. Is it possible to source and replace o-ring, or will I need to replace more? If this is the cause here

The key is to check it after reaching operating temperature and then allowing the engine to completely cool. See the following link:

Thanks a lot! In recent days the smell has actually vanished, so I will rest on this for now. But good to know what to check upon when it eventually returns

The Dampers have a Diaphragm that is designed to smooth the pulses of fuel surge. The O-Rings are just the injectors O-Rings. The protrusion on the rail is same size as a injector base . Rare for injector O-Ring to leak. The diaphragm is usually the culprit. Possibly one could just plug an OLD injector in and cure it w/o the welding. The 4.0L and 4.2L both have the same rail parts but one is Return and other is PWM. & kept at 53#'lbs + or -.

Update to your question, just fixed for two other people: This is why it comes and goes. The hose is loose but not disconnected.
Check the hose which connects the fuel vapor purge hard line to the PCV t connector at the throttle body. On LHD cars this line is on the forward exterior of the brake booster bulkhead just under the coolant header tank.
When replacing the hose, get the proper internal diameter and use hose clamps. Since the t connector is rather hard to remove with everything in place and its age, soaking the end of the hose in boiling water makes it much easier to slip onto the connector.
