Just got back from the 2018 Jaguar National Rally in South Australia, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the XK120. What a fantastic road trip!
5019km/3112 miles round trip. Averaged 10.1 litres per100km/23 mpg (US).
Traveled across the Outback. Average daily temperature was 35-38C/95-100F.
Car behaved brilliantly. Only problem was a dodgy wheel speed sensor which caused an intermittent "NO TRAC/NO ASC". Easy enough to fix and I'll take care of it this week.
We traveled approximately six hours per day and my wife and I couldn't get over how comfortable this car is.
sounds like a swell journey, but how did you manage to travel only 6 hours a day ? When I'm driving my '02 XKR it's hard to stop driving after 10 - 12 hours, it just begs to be driven more, and more, and more.
so far my longer trip has been 1000 miles, round trip, but I've only had the car 4 months. Looking forward to a planned summer trip of 2,900 miles

PS what did you do with the other 18 hrs each day
When I was in my 20's and 30's (a long time ago) I could drive for 24 hours non-stop other than fuel and toilet stops. I rode my Harley 1000 miles in one one day (17 hours). At this stage in my life, 6-7 hours per day is enough for me.
We usually plan our stops in places with lots of things to see and do. And besides, happy hour begins at 4pm!
In addition, you can travel safely between 7am-5pm. Outside of those hours and your chances of hitting a Kangaroo increase significantly. Hitting a Kangaroo in an XK8/XKR will ruin your day.

I'm just 66, so the age restriction hasn't hit me yet. I did have to quit driving manual transmission cars recently though.... falling off too many motorcycles in my 20's has finally caught up with me; am losing strength on my left side due to nerve damage and 3 broken vertebrae.
