I guess I'll have to accept that I may be ignorant in understanding the point. Part of the reasoning is that, yeah, it's fun and prestigious to have a "fast" car and maybe even one that can hit 200 mph at ease. But how often and where do you get the chance to drive at even 90mph let alone 200 mph? At issue is the use of the word "practical" associated with the urge to get the car (at any cost) that can be driven at these high speeds. I can't speak for others but for me, 90% of my driving (in the LA area) is below 45mph. However, I like to have a car that is powerful enough to quickly get on the freeway or pass in a tight situation. Do I need a Porsche for that--no. If I lived in Germany and drove the Autobahn every day--maybe.
