Default It finally happened.

Ah!! It finally happened last night after dinner we went out and lowered the top and a small drop of green oil appeared out of the airbag sensor cover, on the upper console under the latch assembly. I ordered the hydraulic valve kit from LSI. But I was wondering which route to go on the hoses. Replace or splice? From reading the forums, splices may be questionable, or would the reduction in pressure from the hydraulic kit might even make them more reliable. How much longer, time wise would replacing the entire hose take compared to a splice. I have no problem as far as doing it myself, but I don't want to tie up my shop more than two days,(weekend). I would appreciate any opinions on this repair.
Thanks
Doug

We'll have to see what brutal says about the splices along side the reduced pressure valve installation, they may hold up better. Or, the pressure may not be the only problem with the patch job. I can't recall.

I didn't think you could get the splice kit anymore?

I'm sure Gus will also have additional comments as he's had experience with both.

Sorry to hear that you have been blessed with the green monster. A short hose repair is not available and was unreliable on the most part. As for replacing the entire hose it can take from 6 to 8 hours to replace and can be a real pain but you get the opportunity to become familiar with you car. I would suggest that this is not a job for the driveway unless you are comfortable with the weather conditions and that you have all the parts. You can go to FAQ at the bottom or go to my webpage to see the entire job and additional information on the roof operation.
Good Luck!

Gus
I've read your pictorial and almost all of your other repairs also.(Very informative) I've got a complete shop and tools but during the week I don't want the car in the shop, to much of a chance of getting damaged. I got real familiar with the Jag last winter when I disassembled it for paint. The JTIS and ALLDATA was a great source along with the forum.
If the splice kit isn't available that answers my question of which route to go. I'll get the hoses ordered and get a weekend set aside.
Thanks
Doug

Gus
I just finished the hose repair and pressure relief valve installation this weekend. It took approximately 7 to 8 hours. The hose never blew out like the one in your photo. just a very small leak around the latch hose (which didn't make a mess). I was able to run the line under the carpet like you mention with out removing the door sill cover. The relief valve was a snap, a very simple installation. This should be a must do for all convertibles as easy as it is. I would like to Thank You and all the other contributors to this forum for the valuable information supplied.
