First Gen XKR Fuel Pump Question
Greetings,
I have a 2002 XKR and after discovering the two fuel pump relay test, I discovered that mine has the primary pump working but the secondary pump is not, which I understand is not an uncommon issue with these cars. I found a lot of good information on the forum about fuel pumps and changing them. However one thing I cannot seem to find is which one of them is considered the primary pump, and which is the secondary pump? It looks like they sit diagonally to each other in the tank and was just curious to know.
And also from what I gather, it seems like the preferred thing to do is just go ahead and replace both of them? My car runs fine and I've always been in the mindset if it isn't broken don't fix it, but I didn't know if it was better to just leave a good working factory pump alone (car has just shy of 50k miles) , or just go ahead and replace it when I'm replacing the secondary pump. I usually order replacement parts through SNG Barrett, and I'm assumed that they would have good quality fuel pumps as well?
Thanks for the information and suggestions.
Rob

I ALWAYS replace BOTH pumps.
The labor involved is the same so it is not cost effective to do it twice when the other (inevitably) fails.
The cost of the pump(s) is less than the labor?(unless you do it yourself)
DO NOT pull the tank into the boot area without disconnecting the fuel lines under the tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(the lines are NLA)
