Default Fob and key will not unlock door or trunk

Hi, I'm a new member and you can read about me in the new members area. This is a great site! I've owned my 98 XK8 convertible for almost two years. The other evening I parked it and locked it using the fob as I always do. The next morning I go out to the car and click the unlock button and nothing. I tried it again and again and still nothing. Trunk...nothing. I figure a bad battery so I replaced that the next day and came home and still the same results! OK so I start doing some research...I took the fob apart and cleaned all the contacts with a Q-tip and alcohol and put it all back together. Still nothing. I tried using my key to open the trunk...nada. I tried the key in the door and again nothing. I'm going to call a locksmith out here tomorrow if I can't find a solution. I suspect it's a fuse. HELP!

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum! I'm no expert, but there are many here and one will probably chime in here. To me, it sounds like a bad Car battery. There is a hidden keyhole in the XK8 badge on the right rear corner of your car. You can open the trunk manually and check the battery (right side of trunk). I think that is a good starting point for you.
Good luck,
Brian

Lube the locks with oil and do it again. Common issue with remotes these days, no one uses keys anymore and when you do the locks are frozen. And yes probobly dead car battery. The boards in the remotes do go bad though which is why they have to be replaced

Thanks! That was it...dead battery and locks that needed lubed. I work for a mass transit company and talked to our mechanics about this issue...everyone wants to "mystify" the Jaguars...they kept coming up with some no sense reason...must be a super duper security lock on the system. I kept telling them, "It's a luxury sports car with 4 wheels and an engine...it can't be that difficult." Thanks again...
