Default front air dam

I have a 2002 xkr. Did these cars come with some kind of lower front air dam? It looks like something was there on my car. If so, I want to replace it.

Hello, I believe this is the case .

There is a black plastic piece that goes from side to side and about 14" or so back.

I believe it is there for a couple of reasons.

Proper air flow, radiator and oil cooler protection etc. .

It is called Plastic undertray Jaguar part # HJE 6484 AB

Cost about $270.00 from Jaguar.

$243.80 from Jagbits.com (Talk to Gary)

http://jaguar-parts.jagbits.com/hje6484ab
Ps. Don't forget to buy clips to secure!

Happy Motoring...

So, is it, perhaps, part #10 that he is looking for?

I had to buy an undertray recently, $188 from Davis Auto Group (www.partswebsite.com). Shipping is the worst part because it's considered oversize by UPS.

I've found their prices to be good and they check the part against your VIN and will let you know if you are asking for the wrong thing for your particular car.

Easy to install, don't even need to jack the car up. It is supposed to be put on with plastic rivets but you can also use metal clips and screws.

The part that goes over the front cross member has plastic inserts that the retaining screws thread into. Mine had disintegrated which is why the middle part of the undertray broke loose at speed. The inserts can be sourced at Autozone or the like, usually in the licence plate section as they are a small version of the square hole type.

If you want to save some money, talk to one of our forum sponsers, Nalley Jaguar. When my undertray got damaged, I picked it up for $108.38 and free shipping. Talk to Dan and tell him you are a member here. The plastic rivets can be picked up at your local parts store for cheaper than you can get them from Jaguar.

Kevin, I doubt he is looking for #10. That is the chrome splitter for the grille.

OK, I thought that he might be talking about that little black piece of rubber, which I would call a spoiler or air dam that extends down from underneath the undertray or somewhere in that area.

Mine is nicked up and partly gone on one side but still about 80% there. I have always thought that it would really come into play in the higher speeds, over 125 or so to help with downforce, and since I don't intend to drive my car that fast, it has not bothered me.

Which part is that on the schematic, or is that little piece integral to the entire undertray?

The rubber piece is intergal to the undertay. It softens the blow a bit if the front end bottoms out and is sort of sacrificial.

I agree, try Nalley (although Dan is no longer there)...some other online dealers also wanted to charge for oversize shipping when I bought mine.

Thank sounds like just what Im looking for. I cant see it in most of the pictures here probably because the cars already have a low stance. Im confident that the rubber air damn or spoiler is what I seek. Thanks all.

Seems like quite a few have replaced the undertray so I think it's time for a poll.

How fast were you going when it came loose and you realized that it needed to be replaced?

Round about 130 for me.

Might be worth taking a pic, the part that often gets ripped off from curbs and the such is part no. 14 on the PDF that MRom put up, but not all XK were fitted with these?

I knew mine needed replacing when a raccoon came running from a thicket at night and I dropped my speed to about 50 before I hit him. Ripped off the passenger side part of the undertray and in the process, tore the passenger side front wheel liner. I was not happy, but at least it wasn't a larger animal, or a larger raccoon. The rubber strip wasn't in the greatest shape on the old one anyway. Now, 130+ it is good, even though the center isn't affixed quite the way it came from the factory.

A minor clarifiaction: The undertray is actually plastic, with just a thin rubber strip bonded to it.

I am missing both undertray #6 (HJA6484BC) and LH & RH wind deflectors #14(LH HJA6539AB,RH HJA6538AB) on my '97.
The wind deflectors mount behind the undertray.

That's what I was getting at, I was thinking that he was talking about the rubber "air dam", or whatever function it performs, that extends down from the undertray, not the entire undertray.

This is what the undertray looks like installed.

The two sides are larger, almost triangle shaped with a connecting bar that runs across the lower cross member.

The rubber "squeegee" like part is not a separate component so the options are to replace the whole thing or come up with some kind of a DIY fix.

Yes (actually the air dam is plastic, with the rubber strip, as someone else mentioned). You can see the broken plastic rivets in that picture.
