Front Brakes - recs, opinions?
I hoping to finally get around to replacing my front rotors and pads this spring. The pads are fine, but the rotors have a serious lip on them. I think they were last replaced in 2012, although it's possible they are even original. The last recorded brake service was at Bill Knight Ford in Tulsa, OK in 2012 and at 50,027 miles.
I'd like your opinions on rotors and pads. I don't push my XK8 too hard, mostly driving around town and some highway miles, so I don't think I need to go slotted or cross-drilled. I'm looking for a better-than-OEM replacement.
Any thoughts on Brembo vs. Bosch QuietCast vs. say...Dynamic Friction? Others?
Pads - I'd like to reduce the amount of dust so maybe I'll go ceramic. I've seen a few recs for EBC Red Stuff - how about Akebono? Any other contenders?
I know this is all subjective, but most of you guys have a lot more experience than I do with these cars.
Thanks,
Norm

I like the Brembo brakes that the R models came with. They aren't on off switches and require you to press the brake a fair amount but once you actually get on them and the bads have bitten in they stop the car very well in my experience even with OEM pads and discs. A good upgrade for them would be the Red Stuff, I should think they will stop the car even better. They aren't cheap though. I probably wouldn't bother "upgrading" the discs to drilled or grouves unless you are on the track, OEM discs are probably as good as you will get.

There are the Red Stuff pads that a lot of people like (I've never tried them), but, I like Akebono pads. Been using them for years. No noise, no dust to speak of. I never really noticed that my (XK8) brakes were a little soft until I drove another car. They are a little "soft", but I've gotten used to them. No track days for me !
Before spending significant amounts of money, just install the ebc red stuff pads. The red stuff pads will be a good baseline for evaluating the stock system. Or install the ebc yellow stuff pads if you don’t mind a warm up period they require for best effectiveness.
But the redstuff pads are a significant improvement and are very easy on the rotors too.
If your discs are not excessively worn, you can have them turned to be sure they are absolutely flat. Many skip this step, and have poor braking as a result. All brake ships can perform this simple task at a very reasonable cost
Often neglected is a brake fluid change. New DOT 4.0 brake fluid every 2-3 years is cheap insurance against system corrosion. There is almost always measurable water content in old brake fluid.
