Default Front seat recline handle separation to seat?

Hi all,

Has anyone experienced the seat adjust manual lever separating from the seat? Is there a fix for this? My seat is out and just noticed it and would like to get this solved if I can.

Thanks!!

And when you push it doesn't stay in? That usually means the 'tangs' on the back side escutcheon that hold it to the seat are broken in some way and/or the screw below has broken its way through its hole. You can pull the little cover with 'airbag' on it and see how the screw is doing. All six of mine needed various levels of reconstruction/replacement.

It looks like my screw has collapsed through the bracket housing. Are they easy to replace *if even available anymore* ?

It's often a bit tricky to take them off without breaking plastic in the rear tangs (see below for the back), but I usually take them off gently. I try to slip a curved plastic tool under each side to push the tangs toward the center after pulling off the knob. Then the approach is either, 1) try to fix the screw base by taping off the backside, partially filling the area under the 'AIRBAG' cover with epoxy and redrilling the hole. 2) If that's not good enough (like where the tangs are broken), I have found good ones on ebay or at yards with substantial patience. 3) My last resort is that I have a silicone mold of the backside that I can backfill with epoxy to 'reconstruct' the tangs. My guess is that this will kind of repair not last forever. Long term goal is to 3D print, but haven't gotten to this yet because I have six good ones and a spare for each interior color now.

On the other hand, your fix of spreading the load might last a while if it's stable and the top is flush with the seat. Frankly, I rarely use the lever, so short term stress may not be a major issue.

Escutcheon.

I had a similar problem and 3D printed a washer that covers the whole recessed area to distribute the load. There is enough extra space under the Airbag cover to accommodate a little extra thickness.

You could make something similar by cutting a shape out of a thin sheet of lexan or abs plastic sheet.

Do you have a 3D printer? Do you want to make them and sell them out to forum members

It looks like the screw is the only thing controlling up down, if I am not missing anything? I am not sure if I want to remove mine if that is the case.

Thanks!

I do have a printer and wouldn’t mind making some.

Selling them is a bit much, it is pretty trivial to print them but I would be willing to print some and drop them in an envelope for whoever wants some.

It will be a week or so before I can make them, but if anyone is interested just PM me your address.

The protruding back side lever path inset into the seat also limits up and down motion of the escutcheon, but yes, the screw limits it. So, if you push the bottom of the escutcheon to the right position, the top is in the right position? It's also possible that the tangs have been damaged and the top torques around the bottom screw.

This is what the custom washer looks like and the .STL file for it in case anyone else wants to make their own.

Wow, surprised at how worn that is - if you don't mind me asking, do you use a lot of hand cream or do something that would attack the finish like that? I have to replace the keyboard on my wife's laptop every 12-18 months because the hand cream she uses removes the letters from the keys.
