Fuel door doesnt spring open

Default Fuel door doesnt spring open

Just got my 2000 XK8 Convert. and the latch on the fuel door was broken. Went to Jag and purchased the plastic clip that went on the fuel door ($31.00 rip off) and installed it. Latched door and thought was in great shape. Went to fill with gas and fuel door would not open. Finally got a screwdriver under lip while wife pushed the button and bingo it opened. Seems that the two coil springs are not forcing the door up when the button releases. Any thoughts on how this can be corrected. I tried pulling on the coil springs at the back of the door and this didnt correct the problem. Now am asking people at gas station to push fuel door button while I use screwdriver. All comment on how beautiful the car is.

There is an emergency catch on the latching device under carpet in boot/trunk on lefthand side to open the fuel flap.Will save you damaging the paintwork with a screwdriver.

Until you get a permanent fix in place, you could just put a piece of thick foam (like seat cushion foam) under the fuel door. That will put pressure on the door and pop it open when you hit the button.

Problem not with the release mechanism but with the springs that push door open. Thanks Rev for the temporary fix idea but really need a permanant solution. Going to get foam for now, any suggestions appreciated.

Went to put foam in as Rev suggested and noticed that the nut on the release mechinisim was rubbing on the door catch. Turned nut 1/4 turn and walah, works like a charm
