Default Gas Cap Leak?

Hello all

New user. Recently our XK8 (1998) has started to leak fuel from the filler cap after a fillup and a bit of hard driving. I'm guessing it is the filler cap needs replacing, but could there be another cause?

Thanks

A new cap is cheap...replace it as a first step.

Be aware that the 2005 S-Type had a fuel tank replacement recall prompted by leaking gas where the filler tube runs down into the tank. The classic sign was/is gas spilled on the ground during fill-up, and sometimes after hard driving. Our S-Type's previous history shows that this recall was performed on it about 18 months or so prior to us purchasing the vehicle. I wonder if the filler tube / tank assembly in these XK8s could suffer the same fate....

Thanks Jon 89.

Never seen gas on the ground after/during fill. It spews out while driving and leaves a "splash" on the fender... we live on a gravel (dusty) road, so it is pretty obvious.

I have a new cap on order...
