Default Gasoliine Fumes in XK8

I have an XK8 convertible, 1999 just turned 60k miles. I have been getting gasoline fumes in the car on and off for months now(more off than on). There is no visible signs of a leak, no drips from under the car or in the engine compartment. There has been no change in the performance or fuel consumption. Any ideas of the problem or fix? Help please!!

The tank is in the trunk so leakage is gonna be strongest there if its leaking vapor. Pull back liner and inspect. Past that the other areas are the cannister close valve that vents by the right rear wheel well. And the purge valve underhood. Another common leaker is the short stub hose between the right charcoal cannister and the close valve. It cracks, but many of these issues will kick off a check engine light for evap system leaks

DON'T SMOKE!

Welcome - sorry under these circumstances, but you'll get it sorted here, especially if Brutal has a hold of it.

Thanks for you reply to my post. Great help. I'm not getting the "check engine" light at all and it is only happening from time to time, but it's getting worse. I've had the car for 7 years and did not get the manuals but I broke down and ordered all of them today. I tried the JTIS download here but some of the .RAR files were corrupt. Thanks again.
