Have you checked the state of the transmission fluid?

I was afraid you were going to ask that. The procedure is available here in the JTIS which you can download, or do a search for various threads.
Basically, you need the car on a lift or four jackstands. The transmission fluid has to be 30 to 50 deg C. When you remove the fill plug at the right rear of the transmission, with the engine running, fluid will trickle out if it is full. Said fill plug is, of course, right over the exhaust system.
Great design, isn't it?

Depending on your transission skill level, it might be time to find a trans shop you can trust for a diagnostic test. Could be just low fluid and/or time for a filter/fluid change, could be a cable adjust, could be the beginning of A drum failure.
Good luck and keep us posted.

thanks for the feed back...guys. my gut feeling is its some sensor or cable because i can turn the car off and back on and the error goes away untill i come to a stop and take off again. could the problem be a sensor? and where is the gear box located, is it the fluid pan?

The error comes back because it sounds like your trans is slipping. There are sensors that measure engine speed into the trans and driveshaft speed out of the trans. If the speeds don't match what they should be an error message occurs. Different than a check engine light that wil stay on. Get it checked out before it gets worse and you're looking at a tow.

My gearbox did similar things due to low transmission fluid. Turned out the cable loom seal was weeping fluid, so topping the fluid up was only ever going to be a temporary fix. Caught it early enough so there was no long term damage. A transmission specialist replaced the seal and it's been fine ever since.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes, Colin
