Hey
Got problems with getting the gearshifter in P, when shifting Linear switch on my xkr 2004 cabriolet.
The first problem was that D and the right side of the J-gate would not engage or illimunate. Park, Reverse, and Normal lighten up, and i could reverse the car.
I hav bought and now try to replace a new linear switch, but working with this i cant get the gearshifter up in P, so the drive peg and sliding block on the linear switch could not get in the right position. Normally i´m allowd to get the shifter in park when i engage the brake pedal, but no i can´t get the shifter to the Park position whatever i have tried. With engine on, and press on brake pedal, and tbattery reconnected, and connectes - but gearshifter would not get in Park . Any tips?
I have loosen the cable...... Now it looks like these pic. Did not get it into P with cable on...... and now the linear switch are taken off and out of position? Therfore need to get the shifter in P position for put it together again....
Hi,
remove the little plug with the torx-like inlay on the left side of the j-gate, above the "2". use a suitable screwdriver and turn anti-clockwise. once you have it out stick a small screwdriver shaft in the hole. this will release the mecanical lock and you should be able to move the gearselector.
After a lot of tickeling and fickeling for some hours, erasing the related diagnose faults, and adjust the linear switch and the cable linkage, suddenly all went well ! Hurra!
Thanks for all tips and help in several forums. With problems like this Internet save me for some months with problem solutions
Don’t you just love the complicated J Gate module.
No wonder they changed it in later Jag cars!
Sorry been away so late on this thread. Still it’s a Sticky youtube video by Rev Sam, and Fritz’s tip on removing the plastic torque screw, above the 2, is a sage bit of knowledge, for the future, to release the park lock.
