Got a new aftermarket intake tube, pretty nice
My 2001 XKR started running kind of rough and obviously missing. Long story short, I thought it was a bad coil, but it turned out to be the stock intake tube.
The plastic was getting brittle as I took it off (to troubleshoot the right side coils), one of the elbows broke off while taking it off and as I was contemplating using plastic weld to put it back on I noticed there were several holes in the accordion section, and that area just crumbled to the touch. So it was sucking unmetered (and unfiltered) air through the side of the tube.
I went looking online for a replacement and found this one:
Jaguar XK8 & XKR Performance Air Intake Tube Pkg - Mina Gallery Inc
I ended up ordering it in black. It is pretty nice and works well. Looks better than the stock one, rubber ends to attack to the stock MAF and airbox and throttle body. The rubber breather hose they give you has to loop around in a near 180 degree bend, but it is long enough to do it without kinking. I might cut it and put in an elbow to make a shorter shot.
I am not sure about the performance claims, but it cured all the cars missing problems. It does change the sound a lot, probably because it is mostly metal. The supercharger "whine" is really noticeable now. It has that classic turbo hotrod weedwhacker sound when you stomp on it.
