Hard accel gear change gerk after ECU reset
Jaguar XKR 2001 54K miles
Hi I recently changed my MFA and in the process I reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery for 24hr.
Now after reconnecting the battery and driving roughly 50-60miles the gear changes gerks when accelerating hard (this has been like this only since the ECU rest) i.e. upto 5-6K revs. Before the reset everything was fine. Engine run great with new MAF and is much more responsive. I used to get "Trac Not Avail" when starting the car after leaving it a day or so. This error went as soon as the car started and I never got this error when starting a warm car. The error has gone since the ECU reset.
Now I assume the car would have cycled all the tests by now. Do I just need to drive more miles to get the gearbox to re learn my driving style ? or is there something you should do to reset transmission?
Note I have flush the transmission (ATF oil) and put a new filter and elec connector 4K miles ago and had no trans problems until the ECU reset.
Thanks
Simon

H20 dug up the trans re-teaching procedure for another recent thread. Might be worth resetting the system again and trying it.

Interesting but that problem is for the ZF Transmission. The 2001 XKR has the Mercedes transmission W5A580 (MB722.6). But my guess is it is a learning problem.
I'd try another reset, don't let it sit for that long, just touch that negative cable to the positive terminal, and then reconnect. Then drive easy for awhile before sport mode and WOT attempts.
I reset my 2001 XKR all the time (because I do a lot of development with my car) and never had an issue. Try another reset as H2Oboy suggests.

So disconnect +ive and earth from the battery and short, I assume this is ok to do and will reset the trans modual ???
Thanks
Simon
Yes, hold them together for a few seconds to make sure the capacitors in all the modules get thoroughly discharged.
Disconnecting both terminals as you describe will certainly work, but you only really need to disconnect one terminal.
