Headlight chime & other (likely related issues)
My 97 coupe used to chime when the headlights were left on (and car off). As well, the chime used to work for the memory seating controls. Neither of these chime anymore. The blinker (tick-tock) does still work. (I'm assuming these all come from the same speaker on the steering column)
The auto-retracting steering column on the other hand hasn't worked in the 3 years we've had it.
Based on my reading, I suspect that this may be an issue with toggle/switch (??) in the ignition not triggering when the key is removed.
I'd appreciate any suggestions anyone has as to the (actual) cause of the problem and solutions.
Thanks,
David

Based upon what works and what doesn't, the "key in ignition" switch looks like a good suspect. The speaker (right side in steering column) is fed by the body control module.
It indicates:
Dir Indicators
Hazard warning
Lamps on
Gear selector
memory chime
Conv't top movement
Key In / door open
Seat belt
This list is from the Wiring Diagram.
The "key In" switch closes when the key (or any object) is inserted in the ignition.
A small screw driver would do it. Closing the switch ( key in) puts a ground on pin FC14-67 of the Body Processor Module. There are two wires on the Key switch, Black- which goes to ground and Blue with Red- which goes to FC14-67 of the BPM.
I would try grounding the Blue/Red wire and see if any things changes.
If you want the wiring diagram for your 97, send me a PM with your Email addr.
I will send it. It is a PDF file.
