Default Headlight Moisture

Had moisture in passenger side Headlight. Used Hair Dryer and moisture went away. Next Day moisture was back. Checked on the Forum and found post recommending removing clear plastic Headlight Access Cover. Removed Cover. Dried moisture again with Hair Dryer. Headlight has been free of moisture for 2 weeks. My questions is should I leave the Access Cover off or can I put it back on?

Do you have the vent on the side of the headlight? There is a TSB for that. The drain valve is like $5.

I didn't see any sign of a Vent. I'll have another look tonight. Anyone have a picture showing the Vent?

Bob,

Some moisture build up is inevitable.

If it's really bad, this can be a failure of the sealant between the two halves of the headlamp shell. In this case, dismantling and re-sealing will improve the situation.

The Vent Kit is a help in reducing moisture but Jaguar never resolved this issue with the XK8/XKR range.

Some members have tried:

1. leaving the cover off
2. drilling a small hole in the cover
3. taping a small bag of silica gel dessicant under the cover

All these can help reduce the issue but accept you're going to have to live with it.

Graham

I had two xk8's, had the moisture issue. I just pulled the access lids off and left it that way. Never had issues.

I see Aston Martin have a fan venting kit. One like this would be good for the XKs

Large bag of dessicant under the clear door on the top and make sure the run off shoots left and right are in place or water goes straight into the unit
