headlight problem
Hi John,
Im not sure either. Never seen this fault before.. The problem is the headlights work fine but as soon as I signal either left or right the headlights go off and I am left with only sidelights. The rear lights work fine. It has only happened in the last couple of days.
Thanks for your response
Stephen

Stephen,
If you don't already have the XK8/XKR 2000MY Electrical Guide, you're probably going to need it. It can be downloaded from the forum MediaFire account:
http://www.mediafire.com/?eiqqf6heu5zz3#pw5d7247na2f0
Open the Electrical guide folder and download the required MY.
This fault has to be caused by one or more of the following:
1. column stalk switch
2. harness break or short
3. BPM (Body Processor Module)
Does the fault also occur when you use the hazards?
Graham

Wow, this is a good one. Let's think about it for a moment. The turn signal and the headlights share the stalk on the steering wheel. I'm betting this is the source of the issue.
Assumption: doesn't matter which turn signal is energized left or right.
What if headlights on, signal off; hazzard flashers turned on? Anything?
Do you have auto headlights? Let's run through the list: does the issue occur with each headlight position: parking lights, headlights on, headlights auto.
All above, set to high beam(aka passing light), set to low beam - any effect/same issue?
Does the sequence change the outcome? You mentioned headlights = on, turn signal then turns on - headlights go out.
What if turn signal on first, then turn on headlights - anything happen?
Headlights set to Auto on. Either Daylight = yes because it is daytime or simulate daylight with flashlight pointed at sensor in rear view mirror [either case = headlights will not/should not light] Turn on signal, remove flashlight or cover sensor with finger - this should turn headlights on. Do they work this way with turn signal on?
Like I said, thinking out loud. If turn signal on always prevents headlights, it seems to me that the mechanical position of turn signal stalk interferes with headlights. Look for swinging open connection in turn signal stalk or turn signal stalk connections.
If you can find ways to get headlights on sometimes but not others when turn signal is on, we may have to look elsewhere. First I'd pray for low battery condition issue (top off battery); Then I'd try a reset.
Let us know.
