Default Attaching Rear View Mirror adhesive???

on my 03 with rain sensor and compass and dimmer, the metal round base that is on the windshield that the mirrow assmby attaches too, that metal round part was attched with some type black stuff, when I took it off there was a hard black substance on the round metal part that attaches to window. Anyone know what the black stuff is? I have cleaned up the connecting side of the round metal bracket and plan to attach it back to the window, only rear view mirror stuff I know of is not black. Worse case is I use what is out there, what is the BEST mirror glue, and put on and see if it works. I rather not buy a new windshield just to get that metal round bracket.

Don't know what the black stuff is there now JB weld maybe, just a guess. Live in the same type weather climate as you do. Always used this in the dealership I worked at, always worked, and inexpensive enough.

What they used on my 03 was a hard black substance holding the round metal bracket to the window. It is not the hard clear stuff on normal windows that I have dealt with on other cars through the years.
