Default Headlights problem

Hello, i'm new to the forum so first of all i have to say that i'm happy to join your group.
I recently bought a 2002 XKR 4.0 Cabriolet 100, which i love.
Luckily it seems to have alle the right things in place (engine with metal tensioners, no nikasil bores, i already changed the drive and S/C belts, the gearbox oil and the S/C oil) and it runs nice and smooth.

I noticed that the car have xenon headlights (which i now doubt to be OEM as, you may correct me, HID were not available on 4.0 models).
Now my problem is the following:

1) manual height adjustment doesn't work from the dashboard;
2) the automatic levelling doesn't work, even if the levelling sensors on the front and rear wheel are in place. (Though wirings and connectors look crappy and with different wiring colours from the oem schemes).

So when i turn on the lights the levelling test start with going up and down, and after the test the level goes at the lowest position possibile and i can barely see the road.

What do you suggest?

Thanks

Marco
