Default Headliner replacement

I'm proposing to replace the original headlining in my 2001 XKR.

I seem to remember reading on here somewhere that removing the old headlining can be problematic. Any help/advice gratefully received.

Thanks

Don't panic, it's quite straightforward. I have changed mine and took some photos as I went along. You can find the details here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...e-what-112611/

Good luck.

Here is the relevant JTIS section:

JTIS - XK8 Headliner.pdf

The diagram illustrating how to position it to get it out through the door is particularly useful.

I recall reading some members have been able to shortcut this 'official' method by not removing the Front Seats (fully recline them instead) or the Centre Console.

I just finished this yesterday. The process was basically simple, but was more fiddly than my XJS was.

I removed the seats and center console to give more room. There was still some flex required to the board when removing it through the passenger door. The shop that recovered the board does great work. However I supplied him with 1/8 inch fabric to stay as oem as possible. Due to the thiness of the board, some of the wrinkles do show through in places. I am hoping they will eventually erase themselves. I wish I had gone with the 1/4 inch fabric to hide any imperfections.

The other problem was several of the tabs on the poor quality plastic fittings had snapped before I even had touched them possibly at the factory. A couple more broke when they were very gently removed. the worst were the frames around the sliding seat belt adjusters. They seemed to be hanging by nothing. A few tiny dots of contact adhesive seemed to take care of it.

All in all it looks much better than before, but the details were a bit frustrating.

The problem here is that worrasf has a CONVERTIBLE and I believe everyone was posting regarding a coupe...

I hear the convertible headliner is a pain to replace, and I may do mine one of these days because of the orange stains.

worrasf, if you do a search you will find some relevant posts on the topic for sure... if I find any I will post them here.
