heater water pump replacement
#2
I don't know about replacing the pump, but from what I have read here, the most common problem is that the brushes need to be replaced, a few dollars vs. the cost of a pump. Hopefully, someone who has done this will respond, although a search might be a good move, as it could be from the XJ8 forum.

The pump is located to the left of the transmission mounted on the firewall and you will not see it from the top. You can see it when the car is on a lift but never had reason to repair or replace mine on my xk8 but did on my xj6. I have a link to making repairs to it if you elect to do so.

I looked at doing this myself and thought is was too difficult. Brought my eBay used pump to an Indy, we looked at it from underneath thinking we could pull the exhaust off to get access, but then realized I had the incorrect pump. So, went to the dealership. They did the work and I talked to the tech afterward and they remove the the throttle body, and the coolant resovior, and replaced the octopus hose(s) as they were quite tired and some were seeping coolant. Even the tech said it was a tough job, and had only done about 3 in 15 years. BTW, my pump still worked, just made either a horrible grinding noise intermittently, or a loud whiiiiirrrrrrrr almost all the time. Good luck.
