Default Hello all

I bought a 2000 xk8 in october '08, and I've had tons of problems. I bought a 3yr warranty so

So far I had the following break/replaced:

engine mount
fuel vapor recovery system
2 alternators
water pump
thermostat housing
coolant matrix hose
coolant overflow reservoir
trunk wiring harness(+both taillights)

Anyways, i found this website while looking for instructions on how to drain the coolant. I went and talked to a local greasemonkey and we found a leak in the (replacement) coolant tower. I would like to make a thread with some pics, but I haven't taken any yet.

I'm actually making this post in the hopes that it will unlock forum attachments. (so i can view them)

p.s.s. Im trying to hunt down the nikasil info (engine #...) i crawled under the car and found a # basically stamped on what I think is the steering rack. is this the engine #?, it doesnt make any sense --->http://i56.tinypic.com/95rmrq.jpg

No that is not your engine number. The number is located just to the right of the thermostat tower stamped onto the block.
The first steel lined engine was engine number 0008181043. This is a date code and translates to 18th August 2000 @ 10.43am. All engines from that number onwards are steel lined.

I'm not a youtube expert, so I don't know how to allow a response. I did, however, see your video a few days ago and I actually edited my original instructions here in this forum and added a link to your video. I thought that was a really clever repair! Welcome to the forum! You'll find tons of great info and friendly, helpful people here.

Here's a link to the visor repair thread. At the bottom of my original post you'll see where I added a link to your video.

keep posting 2000CA, you're getting close to all the priveledges.

My car had many of those very same repairs done, they're very common. You're a trooper!

Thanks for the replys, Sam: I did see you had added my vid (to your list) after I made this thread. Alas, as a new user I cannot edit my posts.

Im going to read through some more FAQ's to attempt to tackle the following today:

  1. how to replace the dash demister vents: mine rattle, and im not happy with the felt buffers i made.
  2. How to remove the side door guard strips; I always park alone/afar so I'm not to worried about dings (yet)
  3. how to test/repair the rear high-mount LED brake lights. I've got 2 led's that are burnt out.
  4. how to disassemble the door to get at the corroded rubber handle mount surrounds. (i see that thread)

Im also going to refinish my trunk subwoofer (not the stock one) with some tiger stripe maple i've had laying around.

I also notice the air intake (at the bottom of the windshield) is slackening so i might remove it/ clean it and reinstall it.

I found another rattle source in the dash, also thought it was those demister vents, but it wasn't.

Remove those speaker covers on the dash, remove the speaker, and under that is a bolt/screw that was loose on both sides of my dash, and would intermittently make an annoying rattle. I thought it was the demister vents because I would place my hand on it while driving and it would go away. Turns out I was also putting pressure on the top of the dash and masking the real cause.

I'll check out those speakers, thanks. I gotta remove the demisters too sadly.

I've prodded the demister vents every which way and I can't remove them. I can't see any clips or screws.

I happened to see another thread about the two (inside) trunk lights, so I'm off to an upholstery shop to borrow their "fir"/"xmas-tree" plug puller. im also gonna dissasemble the door panels so I can make a pattern of the inset. I want to try and copy the dash wood in the door.

My exterior is CGG paint (carnival red?) and the interior is ivory leather with brown/tan carpet. (im color blind)

I've just recently done the demisters. I'll throw up a thread about it.

I'm drooling... That's the color combination I really wanted. Unfortunately when you buy used you don't have a big selection.
