Default Help! 1998 XJR won’t tickover and is lumpy

Hi Guys,

i have a 1998 XKR that’s been stood up some time. I just replaced fuel pumps as they were not operating and on starting the car it will not tickover, justcoughs splutters and dies. When you rev it it you have to pump the throttle and once over 2000rpm it will quite happily hold this and is smooth.
Is this typical of anything specific, these old girls are complex!! I am not getting any fault codes recorded but also my fault code reader will not connect despite having the Jaguar Landrover files.
Help, I need to get her back on the road soon

cheers
Tom

Take a look at the idle air control system. I'm not specifically familiar on your cars set up, but, on my 4.6 Mustang when it went bad the car would fire up, but quit running immediately. The IAC is what lets the motor idle properly. Good Luck, I thought that I'd just throw out that tidbit. Now to see if I can diagnose my ailing XJS!

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums! It's great to have you with us!

I have merged your two threads on the same topic in to this single thread.

When you get a chance please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

Cheers,

Don
